I have the honour to submit for the significa- tion of Her Majesty's pleasure an authenticated copy of the Appropriation Ordinance for 1901 which was passed by the Le- gislative Council on the 22nd, instant together with the usual report by the Attorney General, 6 copies of the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure, and 6 copies of the statement of As- sets and Liabilities for 1899, and a similar statement partly estimated for the current year.

2. The Estimates show an estimated revenue of $3,509,349.00 exclusive of Land sales, and an estimated expen-

diture of $3,267,932.29 exclusive of Public Works Extraordina- ry, or an estimated surplus of ordinary revenue over ordinary expenditure of $241,416.71.

Including the items above excepted the total revenue which is anticipated is $3,909,349.00 and the total expenditure $3,994,270,29 shewing a total deficit of $84,921.29.

The estimate for Public Works Extraordinary is

a large one principally owing to the number of important works begun or ripe for beginning upon which it will be possible to spend large sums during the year if the Estimates are approvel
